The Monarch Butterfly Fund fosters the conservation of North American monarch butterflies and their migration through habitat restoration, research, monitoring, education and support for sustainable community development, mainly in and near monarch habitat in Mexico. We work to protect and improve the fragile lands on which monarch butterflies depend. In particular, we focus on a small area in central Mexico where eastern and some western North American monarchs spend the winter.
We recognize that the conservation of natural resources requires a multi-faceted approach that protects monarch overwintering habitat and migratory pathways; generates skills and ability in local communities for forest management and stewardship; and improves the economic well-being for local residents. MBF promotes and supports collaboration among organizations and individuals committed to these activities.
