April 17, 2018 by Monica Missrie Article on Forest Recovery Strategies MBF Board member, Dr. Isabel Ramírez was among the coauthors of a recent paper published in the “Restoration Ecology” journal, comparing active versus passive reforestation in the Monarch Butterfly Biosphere Reserve. The article concluded that reduced logging and grazing pressures are important drivers of forest recovery, while agricultural abandonment may be less influential than often believed. This suggests that reforestation investments might be wisely spent supporting and maintaining the natural resilience of forests rather than on costly reforestation programs.
