Alternare has promoted sustainable activities among communities providing workshops and supporting the construction of fuel-efficient
stoves, rain-capturing cisterns, and organic farming among other things. In 2024 the team focused on the impacts of climate change within the MBBR and promoted the regeneration of ecosystems to counteract the worrying decline of monarch butterflies that overwintered in Mexico in 2023 as well as improve the well-being of the region's inhabitants.
138 workshops were held in 15 indigenous communities and ejidos in the region,
benefiting 1,196 people. The workshops addressed key issues such as adaptation to climate change, development of organic fertilizers, solid waste management, and the production of forest trees. Sustainable infrastructure projects were also carried out, including the construction of latrines, ferrocement cisterns and water distribution systems. To promote marketing skills, workshop participants were trained in packaging, labeling, and product promotion of items such as honey. They also learned how to identify and restore bee habitats.
